ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE OF HYBRIB CAR

COMENT AND FEEDBACK OF HYBRIB CAR, This comment from our friends about advantage and disadvantage of hybrib car. 

Advantage of Hybrid:

Technology

Saving petrol, and cost

Good for environment

Tax exemption (till end Dec-2013)

Disadvantage of Hybrid: 

Battery expensive, need to replace after 5 years

High tech, means high maintenance

Resell value not yet know, possibly low

Technology - Yes

Saving fuel and cost - Yes

Good for environment - Yes

Power - oh yes

Reliability - Yes!

Disadvantage - Mechanically sounds like industrial machine.

You really have to do some comparison and see whether it is worth to get. Earlier, I plan to get Honda Insight. But when I compare with other same level car like Forte 1.6SX, it is not really worth to get. I can give you example compare Forte and Insight. And assuming you spend 80km x 24 days a month. (1680km a month). And assuming you will use the car for 10 yrs.

1. Forte is about 86k, and Insight is 99k. You have to pay extra 13k.

2. $$$ Fuel consumption (insight) 5l/100km 

1680km/(100km/5l) * 12 months * RM 1.9 * 10 yrs = RM19k.

3. $$$ Fuel consumption (Forte) 9l/100km

1680km/(100km/9l) * 12 months * RM 1.9 * 10 yrs = RM 34k.

With Hybrid Insight, you save RM 15k (34k-18k) after 10yrs if you drive 1680km per month. But now you have to pay extra 13k + 6k (battery after 10 yrs). Overall, Your fuel you saved not good enough to cover the more money you paid for the hybrid car and battery. Also this is assuming you drive 80k per day.

If you dont really drive heavily, it is not a good choice to choose hybrid now.
